A Kenyan by the name Bonnie is said to have won the SportPesa Mega Jackpot. Bonnie is set to walk away with a whopping Ksh 421 million.
This was the highest ever jackpot in the history of SportPesa, Kenya, and the East African region. The lucky man, after KRA takes its share, is expected to remain with at least Ksh 360 million. Still a millionaire.
But a section of Kenyans is not having it. Maybe it is jealousy, or maybe they have genuine concerns about the big win. They are asking the following questions:
- Why did the guy win just before the kick-off of CHAN?
- Why did he win just when the English Premier League is about to start?
- How did he predict all 17 matches, and why is there not much hype around it?

Well, the above questions do not carry any weight. Something SportPesa might have manufactured the win to attract many Kenyans to start or heavily invest in betting with the hope of becoming millionaires.
Many are calling on SportPesa to release the betting slip of Bonnie, but SportPesa says that would be akin to contravening the Data Protection Act. Which is the truth, by the way.
Kenya is a nation of gamblers, with numbers estimating that at least 87 percent of young Kenyans are gamblers, gambling at least Ksh 1,000 every second.
Gambling in Kenya is so deep-rooted that all radio stations have been turned into gambling stations, getting millions of Kenyans in the rural areas hooked.
As for the SportPesa, this is the first time Kenyans are doubting their Mega Jackpot win. They are among the most transparent betting companies in Kenya. In the past, doubts always fell on Betika with allegations of fraud.
