UBA Group Marks 75 Years As It Focuses More On SMEs

UBA Kenya has officially marked 15 years of operations in the Kenyan market of providing banking solutions to both individuals and businesses. The 15-year-celebrations come at the same time the mother company, UBA Group, is marking 75 years of being in business.

UBA Kenya Bank Limited is a subsidiary of United Bank for Africa Plc. UBA Group is a leading Pan-African financial services group with a presence in 20 African countries, as well as the United Kingdom, the United States of America, France, and Dubai.

UBA PLC was incorporated in Nigeria as a limited liability company after taking over the assets of the British and French Bank Limited, which had been operating in Nigeria since 1949.

UBA Kenya Bank started operations in Kenya in October 2009 with 3 branches in Nairobi and has since increased its footprint to 5 branches in Nairobi, Nakuru & Mombasa.

UBA Kenya Bank, has over the years, been at the forefront of supporting Kenyan small businesses as well as startups by linking them to grants and loans. The move has seen many businesses across the country find a footing and grow their wings.

In March, UBA Kenya swept the counters at the 11th Connected Banking Summit – Innovation & Excellence Awards – East Africa. “We are delighted to announce our success at the prestigious Connected Banking Summit, where UBA Kenya clinched two esteemed awards, further cementing our promise to our customers; to always be the best in innovation and products,” said the lender in a statement.

The newly-appointed CEO of UBA Kenya, Mary Mulili, scooped the Digital Personality of the Year Award, recognizing her for her outstanding contributions, innovative leadership, and dedication to advancing the digital landscape within the banking sector.

At the same time, UBA Kenya was awarded as the Best Bank of the Year, honored for its unwavering dedication, innovative practices, and exemplary leadership in the banking sector.

“These accolades are a dedication to YOU our Customer and underscore our commitment to excellence, innovation, and digital advancement in the banking industry. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Connected Banking Summit – Innovation & Excellence Awards Banking Summit for this recognition and reaffirm our commitment to delivering exceptional banking experiences,” said Mary Mulili, the CEO of UBA Kenya.

At the same time, UBA Bank Kenya set history as the first and the only bank in Kenya with Braille Account Opening Forms to empower visually impaired Kenyans with inclusive financial services.

Braille is a system of raised dots that visually impaired people can read with their fingertips. The system allows them to access written information, and this is widely used in books, signs, and other forms of communication.

“UBA is committed to excellence and creating a legacy in our communities. Over time, we have contributed to empowering communities, equipping less privileged and ensuring that those who are lacking find succor,” said UBA in a statement during the launch.
