TSC To Deploy 1,000 P1 Teachers To Secondary School In New Rule

The Teacher Service Commission, TSC, will deploy 1000 practicing P1 teachers to secondary schools in September this year. The school principal has already declared and submitted various subjects combination in their schools

Despite the backing by parliament for TSC to deploy teachers who have a mean grade of C plain and a degree in secondary option, the commission has remained adamant.

The member of parliament had asked TSC to allow teachers who scored KCSE mean grade C plain or below and acquired a Diploma post, postgraduate diploma, and a degree from various accredited learning institutions to be promoted and deployed.

According to TSC in its fresh plan to promote teachers after July, its shows that only PTE teachers who scored C+ in KCSE will be considered

Though, TSC stopped the automatic promotion of teachers after acquiring higher academic certificates, the commission 1000 practicing 0P1 teachers each year.

TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia while appearing in parliament, said they stopped automatic promotion of teachers in 2014 because it was not tenable.

According to Macharia, the increase in the number of teachers attaining higher academic qualifications made the policy to promote teachers automatically unsustainable hence. Data from the TSC revealed that there were about 218,077 teachers in public primary schools as of 2020.

21,632 teachers had diploma qualifications while 17,930 teachers had bachelor’s degrees.

Requirements

  1. Be a Kenyan Citizen
  2. Be a holder of a P1 certificate
  3. Be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with two teaching subjects
  4. Must have attained at least C plus mean grade at KCSE
  5. Must be serving under TSC.
