All Teachers Service Commission (TSC) field officers who are on leave have been directed to resume work in two weeks without fail. The directive expressly came from the TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Nancy Macharia on Monday.
According to the CEO, the directive is aimed at helping the commission have enough manpower and support during the national examinations that are set to kick off in October. The officers have been directed to report to their workstations as soon as possible.
“As part of our measures to ensure the last phase of the preparations for the national examinations is successful, all TSC field officers who are currently on leave must resume duty on October 16, 2023,” Macharia said during the launch of the examination season at the KNEC headquarters.
According to Nancy, all 71,760 center managers will attend the sub-county briefing meetings that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will mount countrywide in the first week of October. She said the commission has vetted 223,223 teachers to serve as supervisors and invigilators.
In addition, 37,731 teachers will perform the role of examiners. During the exam period, Macharia said all centre managers will be in charge of the collection of exam papers which will be administered twice a day.
“Centre managers will ensure that the double collection of morning and afternoon session papers is done without compromise to any examination procedures,” she said.
More than 3.5 million candidates are set to sit national examinations in Kenya this year. The exams include the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
This is the highest number of candidates to ever be registered to sit for a national exam in Kenya’s history. About 900,000 will sit for KCSE, 1.4 million for KECP and 1.2 million for KPSEA according to Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.
