TSC Final List Of Trainers For CBC Junior Secondary Schools

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC is set to train Trainers of secondary school teachers on the Competency-Based Curriculum, CBC, for Junior secondary school.

More than 60,000 teachers are set to undergo training on CBC for junior secondary school to equip teachers with the necessary skills for use in the new curriculum that is set to make its debut at the secondary level.

The CBC has taken full effect and the first lot of the Junior Secondary is being rolled out. Education CS George Magokha has likened it to a train that has long left the station and that there is no way of turning back.

There have been concerns as to how the program will be rolled out given that almost all teachers are yet to be trained on the new curriculum. Most teachers have complained that the government has imposed the curriculum on them without preparing them.

In the last budget, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) was allocated 2.5 billion shillings for the recruitment of teachers in Kenya. At the same time, the Treasury allocated 544.4 billion shillings to the Ministry of Education.

Free day secondary education has been given 64.4 billion shillings, which would also cover NHIF cover for students. A further 5 billion shillings have been set aside to cater for examination fees waiver for Grade 6, Class 8, and Form 4 candidates.
