The Vadoma Of Zimbabwe Have Only Two Toes

Did you know that there is a whole tribe in Zimbabwe that has two toes? Yes. Each foot has just two toes. They are called the Vadoma tribe.

Also known as Bantwana tribe that means “descendants”, the Vadoma live in northern Zimbabwe, generally in Sipolilo and Urungwe districts of Zambezi river valley. Their main language is Dema language.

The Vadoma tribe is famous for a condition of their foot, in which the middle three toes are absent and the two outer ones are turned in, resulting in the tribe being known as the “two-toed” or “ostrich-footed” tribe.

“This is how we were born. This is how we leave. Sometimes people say that we are not human, that we were supposed to be ostriches. But that is their opinion,” says one elder from the Vadoma tribe.

According to the elders of the Vadoma tribe, their distant ancestors were birdlike beings who descended from stars and mixed their DNA with early earth women to generate progeny.

A similar story has been mentioned by the Dogon people of Mali, who think that thousands of years ago, aliens from the Sirius Star System lived with them.

Scientists say that the tribe suffers from a condition known as ecrodactyly that is caused by a mutation of chromosome number seven.

There condition has not stopped them from being great hunters, tree climbers and runners. Their two large toes, however, make it difficult for them to wear shoes.
