Expectant women in Ndarawetta Location in Bomet County have been spared a long commute to access maternal health services after SportPesa donated over Ksh800,000 to set up a maternity wing at the local dispensary.

The company today delivered beds to start off the maternity wing project at the Ndarawetta Dispensary, a public facility, as part of its Maternal Health support initiative launched this month, when the world marks International Women’s Day.

SportPesa donated six hospital beds with drip stands and will support the construction of a kitchen to serve the maternity wing, which was recently constructed by the management, with support from the community.

“It is important to empower our communities, and as SportPesa we must play our part in supporting this particularly important stakeholder towards building an inclusive community. We are committed to supporting maternal health to ensure that women do not have to travel long distances to get professional maternal health care,” said SportPesa CEO Capt. Ronald Karauri.

The SportPesa initiative will see the organization work closely with partners in various counties to support Maternal Health.

“Women continue to suffer complications due to the scarcity of well-equipped maternity facilities in this area. We thank SportPesa for choosing to bring maternal health care support to the grassroots where it matters most! Their investment in this ward means an increased capacity to handle up to 20 deliveries per month, with the number doubling when the facility is fully operational,” said the dispensary’s management committee chairman, Mr. Joseph Sang.
