Kenyan media houses have been warned against live coverage of demos being planned by the Azimio Kenya Alliance led by Raila Odinga.
In a letter to media houses, the Communications Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba says it is wrong for media houses to stream incidences of violence during the demonstrations.
Last Monday, Azimio announced nationwide demonstrations that rocked the cities of Kisumu and Nairobi. The demos turned chaotic when the police started lobbying teargas against the demonstrators.
In Kisumu, a third-year student from Maseno University was shot dead. In Nairobi, at least two people were shot by the police. The police are, however, yet to issue an official statement on the shootings.
The letter from Ezra Chiloba aims at denying the Azimio Kenya Alliance airtime during their demonstrations.
Here is the letter from Ezra Chiloba:
Raila Odinga has now announced that Azimio will be holding demonstrations every Monday and Thursday until the government of Kenya Kwanza agrees with the terms set for them.
Raila Odinga wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers opened, the cost of living brought down, and intensify the fight against corruption.
The Azimio leader also went ahead to call on his supporters to boycott using Safaricom PLC, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), and Radio Africa Group (The Star Newspaper).
