The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has kicked off the second round of deploying P1 teachers to Junior Secondary Schools across the country to address the looming shortage and crisis.
Almost two months after the start of Junior Secondary Schools, stats show that some learners in some schools are yet to start learning for a lack of teachers and other facilities.
TSC has now instructed Sub-County Directors of Education to “immediately generate and issue the qualified teachers with posting letters upon successful document verification.”
Teachers have also been asked to make applications to be deployed to Junior Secondary Schools via an online portal as soon as possible. This shows the last-minute efforts by the teachers’ employer to avert a crisis that is threatening CBC.
TSC has been under pressure to deploy more teachers to Junior Secondary Schools after many learners went without teachers across the country. Kids who joined Grade 7 are supposed to have covered a considerable amount of the syllabus but that seems not to be the case.
Some teachers who had applied for the first deployment missed out on the list that had been released. Those who had qualified missed receiving messages that would have directed them to where they were supposed to report. So much confusion.
Primary schools teachers who want to teach at the Junior Secondary School should meet the following requirements as directed by the TSC:
Have an active registration as a teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
Must be currently employed as a primary school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission
Should not be currently serving an introduction or undergoing a disciplinary process.
Have a minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum C+ at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or an equivalent with a C+ in two teaching subjects currently being offered under CBC.
The degree certificate must be a Bachelor of Education. Those with a Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) are not eligible.
Must have expressed interest to be deployed to Junior Secondary School and their name must be in the list shared from the headquarters.
