Xbox Game Camp Returns To Africa For Third Year To Empower Game Developers

Microsoft has announced the return of Xbox Game Camp Africa for its third edition, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing and uplifting game development talent across the continent.

Unveiled via Xbox Wire, this year’s program is being run in partnership with ID@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program (DAP) and will feature pre-selected professional game studios from across Africa.

Over the course of 12 weeks, participating teams will progress from game ideation to producing a working prototype or vertical slice, guided by mentorship from Team Xbox experts.

Since its inception, Xbox Game Camp Africa has welcomed more than 1,900 aspiring game creators, helping them build skills and networks to thrive in the industry. Among its success stories is Kenyan studio Kunta Content, whose debut title Hiru was born from insights gained in the first two camps.

Dean Gichukie, CEO and Game Producer at Kunta Content, expressed excitement as the studio released a new trailer for Hiru, showcasing rich landscapes inspired by African heritage.

“We are beyond excited to finally share a glimpse of the world of Hiru,” said Gichukie. “This trailer is a testament to our team’s passion and the incredible support from Xbox, starting with Xbox Game Camp, allowing us to showcase the beauty of the Masai Mara, the mysteries of the Congo, and the starkness of the desert.”

The official kickoff of Xbox Game Camp Africa 2025 is scheduled for December 4 in Cape Town, South Africa, coinciding with Africa Games Week.
