The Teacher Service Commission, TSC, has only listed six job groups that will earn the salary increment with arrears after the July 2022 budget.

According to TSC, teachers in Grade B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 will not get a pay rise because they are not eligible when it comes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA 2017-2021 terms.

The Commission says that teachers have reached their maximum salary points popularly known as “bar” and therefore it will not be possible for their salaries to progress upwards.

TSC pays teachers their salary increments with arrears from the date they attained the maximum salary point to January 2022.

TSC will receive an extra 15 billion shillings for the 2022-2023 financial year, the commission has refuted claims that it will use the funds to award payrise.

Education and Research of the National Assembly by the parliamentary Budget Office, TSC plans to use its increased allocation of 15 billion shillings exclusively to employ 13,00 secondary school teachers and 9,000 interns to cope with exits and expected increase in enrolment when the junior secondary is rolled out in January 2023 according to the report.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia was also optimistic that the government will provide the additional 2,5 billion shillings for hiring 5,000 new tutors.
