Teachers Service Commission, TSC, is set to promote a total of 1,208 primary deputy headteachers early next year to serve as headteachers in various regular and special needs education schools.
According to the TSC score sheet, the deputy headteachers who are currently acting as heads of institutions (HOI) will have the upper hand in promotion.
Experience in deputizing a headteacher will matter most. The period one has served as a deputy headteacher will prove his fitness for the job.
TSC had previously indicated that those who served as deputy headteachers for a period not less than five years should be considered.

In Advert number 03/2024 the Commission has listed the requirements for the promotion of the deputy headteachers as follows;
Requirements
- Have served as Deputy Head Teacher II TSC Scale 9 for a minimum period of three (3) years;
- Have a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process;
- Have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and provide professional support to other teachers; and
After application, the teachers will be invited for interviews after successful shortlisting. They will produce several documents before the interviewing panels.
Some of the documents include the TSC appointment letter to current grade, the last three years’ TPAD ratings as well as KCPE and KCSE performance for their schools.
Several documents will also be required for those who will be successful in line with the Kenya constitution.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
- Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
- Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
- Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
- A Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB
- Those in acting positions will be confirmed and retained in their current stations.
