In February this year, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will start posting to schools a total of 8,707 teachers it recruited recently to replace teachers who exited the Commission through natural attrition.

TSC advertised 5,862 posts for primary schools, 21 posts for junior schools, and 2,824 posts for secondary schools in the replacements.

On 13th January, the Teachers TSC started promotion interviews for teachers promotion in all sub-counties

According to the TSC promotion score sheet, aged teachers are scooping marks and are more likely to be promoted. The score sheet teachers aged 55 years and above have been awarded 30 marks.

Those aged fifty to 54 have been awarded 26 marks while those aged forty-five to forty-nine have been awarded 22 marks.

Teachers aged forty to forty-four have scored 18 marks while those aged thirty to thirty-nine have scored 14 marks in the scoresheet.

Unlike in previous interviews where shortlisted applicants would face many questions from the interview panel, in this one there are no questions asked.

Interviewees are only asked to present their documents to the panel for verification. The panel also confirms the age and years of service in the current grade from the teacher.

TSC will promote teachers based on their age and the period they have served in the current grade. In this exercise, the Commission seeks to fill 19,943 promotion vacancies it recently declared.

Those successful will be posted to schools where there are vacancies. TSC is facing mass retirements of teachers end of June and August this year.

TSC promotions is also seeking to address the numerous vacancies left by HOI’s and DHOI’s who retired and others are set to exit this year.
