In line with this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, SGA Security has commemorated the day by supporting teenage girls who have been abandoned and sexually assaulted. The girls are hosted and cared for by the Wings of Hope Rescue Home in Ruai.

SGA Security donated essential food items and toiletries that will help offload the financial burden of the rescue home. The security firm also donated school bags made from recycled old guards’ uniforms.

The home has been a beacon of hope for survivors, offering the girls a haven. The girls are rescued when expected. They are then taken in and cared for until they deliver and nurse their babies for 6 months, after which they are taken back to school to complete their studies.

Speaking during the celebrations, SGA Security, Group PR, and Branding Manager, Josephine Wanjiru expressed their gratitude to the directors of the rescue home, for being a pillar to the vulnerable girls.

“As SGA Security, we recognize the good work being done by this home, by supporting survivors of sexual assault and helping them rebuild their lives. As we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, we are proud to see that this home has indeed inspired inclusion by ensuring that these teenage girls do not drop out of school but are incorporated and supported back into the community,” said Ms. Wanjiru.

The director of the rescue home expressed her gratitude to SGA for putting a smile on the girls’ faces through their support.

“Our rescue center depends on well-wishers like SGA Security to help our vulnerable girls. Our resources are overstretched, and with individuals and corporates like SGA Security coming to support and show compassion, our burden becomes lighter,” said Ms Fransisca Kiio.

International Women’s Day is celebrated to address pertinent issues that affect women such as gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women, and discrimination based on sex.
