Safaricom PLC has announced a planned upgrade of its M-Pesa platform set for Monday, September 22, 2025, between 12:30 am and 3:30 am.
The telecommunications giant said the three-hour exercise is aimed at boosting the reliability, security, and overall performance of the mobile money service.
“For 18 years, M-Pesa has continued to transform lives across Kenya, connecting you, our customers, to opportunities every day. To keep this promise of offering safe, secure, and worry-free financial services, we will be conducting a scheduled system upgrade on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 12:30 am to 3:30 am,” Safaricom said in a statement.
During the maintenance window, all M-Pesa services, including airtime purchases, will be temporarily unavailable. The company noted that the timing of the upgrade was deliberately chosen to minimize disruption and apologized in advance for any inconvenience.
Safaricom also expressed gratitude to its customers for their continued trust and support, reaffirming its commitment to delivering innovative digital and financial solutions that transform lives.
The company advised users to complete any planned transactions before the scheduled downtime.
The upgrade comes in the same year that Safaricom launched celebrations to mark 18 years since the introduction of M-Pesa, Kenya’s most widely used mobile money service.
