Kenyan Form Four Leavers Are Rushing For These Four Courses

Kenyans who did their Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) are scrambling for four courses in Kenya, leaving others with no interest. This has left experts worried about the future of some sectors in the country.

According to Kenya Universities, and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS), Kenyan youth want to do the following courses:

  1. Nursing
  2. Clinical medicine
  3. Law
  4. Teaching

The youths are also least interested in courses such as Journalism that are increasingly losing meaning with no jobs around the country. Journalism in Kenya has become saturated with media houses opting to bypass professionals and going for comedians and celebrities.

Teaching is still the most preferred job and course among millions of Kenyans. There is a general belief that teachers will always be needed no matter how long it takes. Many are focusing on joining Junior Secondary Schools as teachers.

At the same time, other institutions such as banks often prefer teachers who have done mathematics and business or economics as their employees, giving the profession a long list of those who want to join it.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is also always employing teachers from time to time. With the CBC in place, teachers who understand the curriculum will forever be needed. This year,

Even though there are thousands of unemployed nurses in Kenya, many who are being channeled out of learning institutions are leaving the country for greener pastures in other countries such as the United Kingdom.

When it comes to law, many lawyers in Kenya are unemployed. KUCCPS did not reveal the motivation behind many youth wanting to be lawyers, but perhaps it is from the sound of it or the presence of many posh lawyers who appear to be living large.
