The milestone comes as the Authority reflects on its journey of transformation and modernization in revenue collection and taxpayer services.
Over the past three decades, KRA has evolved from a traditionally manual system into a highly digitized tax agency, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and compliance.
“This 30-year journey is not just about revenue figures. It is about the role we have played in building our nation. From roads and schools to healthcare and security, every shilling we collect contributes to a better Kenya,” said KRA.
Since its inception, KRA has grown significantly in terms of revenue performance. In the 1995/96 financial year, the Authority collected just under KSh 100 billion. In contrast, revenue collection for the 2023/24 financial year exceeded KSh 2.4 trillion, a testament to both economic growth and improved compliance mechanisms.
The Authority has also undertaken key reforms including the introduction of iTax, the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS), and the ongoing expansion of taxpayer education and enforcement strategies.
KRA remains a cornerstone in financing Kenya’s development. As we mark this anniversary, we call on all Kenyans to partner with KRA in the spirit of patriotism and accountability.
The anniversary celebrations will continue throughout September with outreach activities, taxpayer forums, and a national campaign under the theme “30 Years of Enabling Self-Reliance.”
As KRA looks to the future, it has pledged to further strengthen its systems, enhance voluntary compliance, and support Kenya’s vision of economic self-sufficiency.
