KARMA Goes Full Blast Into Technology

The Kenya Association of Record Managers and Archivists (KARMA) launched its 8th Annual Conference, hosting over 400 leading professionals from across the African continent in Naivasha for the region’s most comprehensive forum on digital transformation in record management. Themed “From Digitization to Digital Transformation,” the five-day conference will focus on advancing Kenya’s data management capabilities to meet global standards and empowering organizations to build resilient, efficient digital infrastructures.

KARMA Conference 2024, the largest of its kind in Africa, has grown into a premier platform for industry experts to examine evolving trends, learn from top international thought leaders, and engage in discussions on record management practices that can catalyze organizational efficiency and economic growth. Attendees include professionals from diverse sectors such as finance, healthcare, government, and academia, underscoring the conference’s importance in shaping Kenya’s digital landscape.

In her keynote address, Chief Guest Hon. Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Digital Economy, commended KARMA’s dedication to guiding Kenya’s transition toward digital transformation. She emphasized the importance of moving beyond basic digitization toward fully integrated digital processes, a shift that aligns with the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (2020-2030).

“A structured digital transformation journey is essential for building resilient and future-ready organizations. Digital transformation is no longer a choice; it’s a strategic necessity that enables businesses to streamline operations, enhance data security, and drive sustainable growth. By embracing this shift, we’re equipping Kenya’s institutions with the tools to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.” She Said.

She further added that the Kenya government had intensified its commitment to advancing the digital economy, recognizing the essential role that digital infrastructure plays in transforming national growth and competitiveness. “The digital superhighway stands as a cornerstone of the government’s vision for national development, serving as a catalyst for economic growth, competitiveness, and innovation. Through strategic investments in digital infrastructure, we are not only modernizing how businesses operate and deliver services but are positioning Kenya as a leader in the digital economy, driving progress that benefits every sector and citizen.”

In his remarks, KARMA Chairman Cleophas Ambira highlighted the significance of Kenya’s leadership in the digital transformation of record management, saying, “Kenya is at the forefront of an exciting shift from digitization to full digital integration, setting a benchmark for the continent. Through this conference, we seek to inspire adoption of best practices that not only ensure compliance and data security but also drive efficiency and organizational success. Our goal is to make Kenya a model for digital record management across Africa

“This gathering isn’t just about information exchange; it’s about building a network of forward-thinking professionals who will lead the charge in digital transformation across the continent. By fostering collaboration and skill-building, we are empowering Kenya’s record management professionals to become champions of innovation in their organizations and industries.” He added.
