Some people call you with “private numbers.” Very annoying. This is very common among a section of Kenyans, especially those who run scam operations. Private numbers mean the caller has hidden their numbers. You cannot see the numbers, you cannot tell who is calling, and you cannot block them.
Kenyan mobile loan apps have a habit of spamming their customers with annoying spammy calls. In most cases, if the customer has mastered their numbers, they will start using “private numbers” with the only option for many being either to receive or to reject.

But, you can block them as well.
Here is the whole process.
- Go to your call app or simply open the dialer on your Android phone.
- At the top right, there is a three-dot menu. Click on those dots.
- On the pop-up options, scroll down to “Settings”
- Then, Click on “Block Numbers” on other phones will show “Blocked Numbers”
- Turn on the icon that says “Block private or unknown numbers”
That is all you need and you will be home with peace. Forever.
When you enable call blocking, your phone will not ring when a number you’ve blocked is detected. Whether you block specific phone numbers or you’ve taken the steps above to stop all private and unknown calls, you will receive no alerts that the caller is attempting to reach you. You won’t receive texts from the numbers either.
Of course, the caller can still leave voicemail messages, so you won’t miss any important communications if you check your voicemails.
Blocking private numbers isn’t perfect. The setting is a blanket ban on all private numbers, so friends or family who use withheld numbers will be blocked too. This is because blocking is done on the handset and not on the network.
