KICTANet is implementing the SDC project in Busia and Mandera Counties, with support from the UK Government. The move is aimed at bringing the marginalized communities in these counties into the digital fold and avail initiatives and opportunities available to them like the rest of the country.

“We are equipping women, youth, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Busia and Mandera with essential digital skills. This will help them be at par with the rest of the country and use the skills to empower themselves socially and economically,” said KICTANet.

At the same time, KICTANet and partners are training CDCs who will deliver basic digital literacy skills to residents of Busia & Mandera, as well as empowering youths, including young women & marginalized groups, with digital skills for job market success!

“We have partnered with ICT institutions and governments to improve access to affordable internet, devices, and digital platforms,” said KICTANet.

In January 2025, 150 brand new computers were handed over to Mandera County to help amplify digital inclusion and empower local communities. The computers were donated through the partnership between the UK Government and KICTANet at a cost of 15 million shillings.

The donation of the computers is in line with the UK Digital Development Strategy 2024-2030, Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality).

As the the world sprints towards a digital future, for many marginalized Kenyan communities, the race hasn’t even begun. Picture a child in Mandera, armed with curiosity but limited by chalk and blackboards. Imagine an entrepreneur in Turkana, bursting with ideas but shackled by a lack of online resources. The digital divide isn’t just about missing out on the latest TikTok trends—it’s about access to knowledge, economic opportunities, and a better quality of life.

KICTANet is determined to change this.
