Glovo Now Compensates Couriers Who Were Affected By Floods

Glovo, a pioneering multi-category app, has launched a countrywide initiative to support couriers in its ecosystem affected by the recent floods in Kenya. Through a dedicated Crisis Relief Fund, Glovo has disbursed over 500,000 Kenya shillings to help these couriers cope with the losses caused by the severe weather conditions.

The relief fund aims to provide immediate financial assistance to independent couriers who have shown incredible resilience in delivering Glovo orders despite the challenges. Couriers submitted applications detailing their losses due to the floods and the impact on their livelihoods.

“Our ability to deliver what our customers need is largely due to the hard work and dedication of the couriers who operate within our ecosystem. They are the backbone of our operations. This relief fund is our way of supporting them and ensuring they can continue their work with the same commitment,” said Caroline Mutuku, Glovo General Manager, Kenya.

Funds were allocated based on the severity of the losses described in the couriers’ applications. Couriers have the freedom to use the funds to address their specific needs, whether it’s repairing property, replacing essential items, or other critical requirements due to the floods.

One of the couriers who received support from the fund, John Mwangi, shared his experience: “The floods destroyed my home and most of my belongings. With the help of Glovo’s Crisis Relief Fund, I was able to repair my house and replace essential items. This support has been a lifeline for me and my family, and I am grateful to Glovo for their assistance during this difficult time.”

We understand the challenges couriers face during this tough time, and we hope this initiative helps them rebuild and recover,” said Daphne Kabeberi, Africa Lead for Impact and Sustainability at Glovo.
