Gamers Take Over KICC As Safaricom Powers 2025 Otamatsuri Gaming Convention With 5G

Hundreds of gaming enthusiasts thronged the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Saturday for the highly anticipated 2025 Otamatsuri Gaming Convention, turning the iconic venue into a buzzing arena of energy, skill, and creativity.

From competitive showdowns to cosplay parades, the event captured the spirit of Kenya’s fast-rising gaming and pop culture scene. And at the heart of the experience was Safaricom’s ultra-fast 5G network, delivering smooth gameplay, low latency, and seamless online interactions that kept the action alive.

“We are proud to partner with Otamatsuri to power this year’s convention with our 5G network. This is not just about showcasing speed and reliability—it’s about enabling experiences, connecting communities, and supporting the growth of gaming culture in Kenya,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC.

The convention wasn’t just about gaming. Fans immersed themselves in a vibrant celebration of pop culture—from movies, TV shows, anime, and manga to music, cosplay, live performances, and merchandise showcases.

The biggest thrill of the night came with an all-out Local Area Network (LAN) Party, where gamers carried their own PCs and consoles for an electrifying marathon of nonstop play. The room lit up with energy as players clashed in shooters, strategy games, sports titles, and more—fueled by adrenaline, energy drinks, and the hunger for victory.

“The turnout this year has been incredible, with an overwhelming number of gamers joining us to experience the event and showcase their talent. I would like to thank our key sponsors, especially Safaricom, for powering this convention with 5G. The speed and stability of their network has been a game-changer. We are optimistic about growing Otamatsuri to even greater heights,” said Jotham Micah, event organizer.

For veteran gamers, the convention was more than just a weekend of fun—it was proof of how far Kenya’s e-sports scene has come.

“I started gaming 20 years ago, and seeing how the community has grown is incredible. Events like this show our progress. Reliable network connectivity is at the heart of gaming, and providers like Safaricom have been instrumental in making e-sports possible here. Without strong internet, we simply can’t game,” said Murray Lidambiza, a long-time gamer.

With thousands in attendance, electrifying competitions, and Safaricom’s 5G powering the experience, the 2025 Otamatsuri Gaming Convention firmly cemented its place as one of Kenya’s premier gaming and pop culture festivals.
