Bolt Named Kenya’s Most Downloaded Travel App in 2025

Bolt, the global shared mobility app with 200 million customers across more than 50 countries, was the most downloaded travel app in Kenya in 2025.

Bolt is the leading on-demand mobility platform in Kenya with the widest geographic footprint and operates in over 10 urban locations across the country, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nyeri. Bolt offers  ride hailing, delivery services through Bolt Food and Bolt Market, and corporate mobility services through Bolt Business, since its launch in 2017.

Kenya is just one of 23 countries where Bolt is the most downloaded travel and mobility app, according to data from Sensor Tower, a company specialising in digital intelligence and app data analysis, which was collected throughout 2025.

Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, East Africa, said: “The growing number of Kenyans choosing Bolt reflects the trust riders continue to place in our platform. While we already lead in delivering accessible, reliable mobility, we see significant opportunities to grow even faster. Our focus is on expanding into more cities, introducing new services, and continuously enhancing the Bolt app to set the benchmark for customer experience in the market.”

Bolt continues to strengthen its offering in Kenya through recent feature launches such as Trusted Contacts, Family Profiles, dashcams, and flight tracking. In a recent safety index released in partnership with Ipsos, 94% of Kenyans said ride-hailing is safer than other transport options, with women and youth in particular citing it as a safer choice at night. Bolt continues to invest in technology-driven safety solutions to ensure a secure and seamless experience for both riders and drivers.

Beyond mobility, Bolt Market recorded the region’s highest growth, with orders increasing by over 300%, while Bolt Business remains the preferred choice for corporate travel, helping organisations enhance employee welfare and streamline operations.

In addition to being the most downloaded travel app in Kenya, Bolt recorded impressive results in 2025, hitting a record €12.5B GMV weekly run rate, surpassing €2.3B in revenue, and remaining cashflow positive – all while continuing to expand globally.
