Absa Bank’s Boss Named Top African CEO

Absa Bank Kenya CEO Mr. Abdi Mohamed has been recognized for excellence in brand building and leadership by the prestigious 2024 Africa Brand Leadership Awards.

Absa tapped Mr. Mohamed to head the Bank in 2023, an insider who before the CEO role served as the Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania and acting Managing Executive for Retail and Business Banking, Africa Regional Operations.

Mr. Mohamed, who took over the reins of the lender just one year ago, steered the bank through the transition from the Barclays brand to Absa, gaining market share and recognition in the country.

The High school math teacher from Garissa, has risen through the ranks in Absa, where he continues to mentor using his leadership style to transform the lender into a new growth strategy to win market share and to solidify Absa’s position on the continent.

The new boss has delivered on profitability in his first year in charge and looks set to grow the bank’s books in its pursuit for market share especially in retail and the small business market.
