Absa Bank Kenya are this year’s overall winners of the Banking Industry Sustainable Finance Summit & Catalyst Awards 2024, setting a defining moment for the Kenyan lender.

According to Absa Bank, being named the Overall Winner is a testament to  the bank’s dedication to excellence in sustainable finance adding that the recognition reflects the trust placed in the institution by the customers and communities it serves.

The lender emerged as the Most Innovative Bank pegged on its mission to reimagine financial solutions by seamlessly blending technology, insight, and customer-centricity to meet the demands of today while anticipating the needs of tomorrow.

Absa also emerged as the Best in Sustainable Finance, underscores Absa’s determination to drive meaningful change. From fostering green initiatives to championing economic resilience, the bank’s responsible banking ethos is not just about numbers but about making a tangible impact on lives, livelihoods, and the planet.

Speaking during the award ceremony, Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) Acting CEO Mr. Raymond Molenje, said, “Adaptation Finance by banks needs to be prioritized to ensure many vulnerable communities and businesses are cushioned or made resilient. Banks need to also finance mitigation measures to decarbonize their operations and lending practices.”

At the same time, the bank emerged as the Best Case Study – Promoting PWD Accessibility an award that highlighted the bank’s commitment to inclusivity and equity.

“These awards are more than just trophies; they are milestones in a journey powered by purpose. Absa Bank Kenya has proven that banking is not just about transactions—it’s about transformation. It’s about envisioning a better future and bringing it to life, one impactful step at a time,” said Absa Bank in a statement.

Aba Bank has been widening its footprints across the country by opening branches with its latest branch being in Kamakis bringing Absa Bank’s total footprint to 86 branches across 38 counties, showcasing the Bank’s commitment to expanding its reach.

Complementing this physical presence is an extensive agency banking network, which has seen significant growth this year, increasing from 600 agents to 3,000. The bank has ambitious plans to expand this network further, aiming to enlist a total of 17,000 agents within the next two years.
