The APA Apollo Foundation has given Cheleta Primary School in Runda, Nairobi County, a new lease of life by re-roofing its classrooms. Previously, learning was disrupted whenever it rained because classes would flood, and the pounding on the old roof made it difficult to concentrate.
With the new roof, students can now learn in comfort, regardless of the weather.
This project is part of the APA Apollo Foundation’s broader commitment to education, where KSh 8 million in Social Responsibility funding has been invested in education initiatives. Through its bursary scheme, the Foundation has supported over 50 young people, with 85% of beneficiaries now employed or pursuing further studies.
The bursary programme was designed to support the top-performing boys and girls from Cheleta Primary School, many of whom come from Githongoro, a marginalized community nearby. Since 2007, more than 45 students have benefited—transitioning successfully from primary school to secondary, to college, and into careers. Today, six former students are enrolled at Jomo Kenyatta University, while others have graduated and joined leading companies, including The Apollo Group itself.
Thanks to this long-term investment, Cheleta Primary has risen from the bottom of the rankings to become a reputable institution, with an above-average transition rate to secondary school. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds now have access to education, skills development, and mentorship, empowering them not only to succeed in school but also to thrive in the workforce.
Within the APA Apollo Group, the focus on lifelong learning continues through graduate programmes, targeted leadership training, and staff development initiatives that strengthen both individuals and the wider community.
