The government, through the National Treasury, has announced that it will be paying 206 billion shillings in pending Billings owed to different suppliers across the country.

According to Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, the 206 billion shillings is part of the 633 billion shillings that the government of Kenya owes suppliers.

Mbadi says the government will now clear all pending bills that are at least 10 million shillings. Those above will have to wait for the next batch.

The Treasury CS, who has been moving with vibrancy across the country, says that the cash will soon be released to various entities and those who supplied goods must be paid.

The government has been leading the way in not paying suppliers on time leading to the collapse of businesses and sometime times suppliers running into depression.

But Mbadi assured Kenyans that this will soon be a thing of the past although many Kenyans are skeptical given that Mbadi is just a politician like any other, and also given that he is making promises under President William Ruto who is a master of unfulfilled promises.

“This money will be paid and it will help people to run their businesses. We want to move away from an era where people would wait for their money for years. If you have supplied your goods or services, there is no reason why you should not be paid,” he said.

Mbadi was in the company of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Chairman, who is also the former Governor for Laikipia County, Ndiritu Muriithi. The two were taking part in a public participation at Jivanjee Gardens, having a discussion with Bunge la Mwananchi.
