The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner General Mr. Humphrey Wattanga has announced that KRA will be going ham in embracing Artificial Intelligence to enhance revenue collection and reduce tax evasion cases within the country.
Speaking during the first day of the KRA Tax Summit at Safari Park Hotel, Wattanga emphasized the need to have all systems within KRA be amplified in terms of AI and machine learning for better revenue collection and economic growth.
“KRA recognizes the transformative potential of technology in reshaping taxpayer services, strengthening revenue collection, and enhancing operational efficiency. Our unwavering dedication to this cause is evident through strategic policy reforms and the modernization of revenue administration processes,” he said.
“The implementation of APIs, AI, and machine learning will play a critical role in enhancing revenue mobilization by improving efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. APIs will facilitate seamless data exchange between KRA and taxpayers, streamlining processes such as tax filing and payment. This connectivity allows for real-time updates and easier access to information, reducing errors and enhancing user experience.”
AI and machine learning will analyze vast amounts of data to identify tax evasion patterns, optimize resource allocation, and predict future revenue streams. By leveraging these technologies, tax authorities can better understand taxpayer behavior, personalize outreach, and implement data-driven policies that promote compliance. Ultimately, the integration of APIs, AI, and machine learning not only boosts tax collection but also fosters trust and transparency within the tax system,” he added.
At the same time, speaking at the same event, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, called on Kenyans to support KRA policies in ensuring that the Authority serves the country in facilitating trade and growing the economy, sentiments that were shared by the Chief Quest, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
