Easter

Easter is here with us. It is going to be a long weekend. Kenyans will leave their workplaces on Thursday evening and report back on Tuesday morning. After a series of other “holidays” brought about by Maandamano, Kenyans still want more with Easter being one of them.

As it is the norm, during Easter, people shop. Some use a lot of money while the smart ones know how, where, and when to shop to save money.

Here are 5 ways to save some cash while shopping this Easter:

Look out for discounts: during this season, so many product and service providers often give massive discounts to help their customers celebrate. LG Electronics, for instance, is offering between 7,000 and 50,000 shillings in discounts on home appliances.

Buy from genuine sellers: you are more likely to lose money this Easter by buying anything that has a discount. For electronics, buy from genuine sellers. For other household stuff, buy from supermarkets where there are receipts and a return policy.

Buy early: the other day, Carrefour Supermarket gave a discount on cooking oil. Within 30 minutes, the shelves were clean. The same is happening across the board on other items. Whenever you see a discount today, and you need it, buy it today.

Buy only what you need: with the massive discounts this Easter, it does not mean that you have to pay for everything. There is life after Easter. Buy what you need, and if possible, capitalize on what will benefit you way after Easter is gone.

Use the bus: all the SGR trains to Mombasa are fully booked for Easter. Airlines, on the other hand, have tripled ticket prices to between 23,000 and 26,000 shillings, one way. Why waste all that money on a one-day thing? Buses are charging 1,200 to Mombasa. If you must go there, use the bus.
