BAT Kenya has received the 2020 CIO100 Green Edge Award recognizing it as the top company in technology-driven sustainable manufacturing in East Africa.
The award comes hot on the heels of two other awards received in October at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers’ 2020 Energy Management Awards, for excellence in electricity savings and water efficiency.
During the CIO100 awards held in Naivasha, BAT Kenya also bagged the 2020 Gold Mark Award for the second year in a row, for its use of digital technology and innovation in manufacturing practices.
The annual CIO100 Symposium and Awards hosted by CIO East Africa celebrates 100 organizations, and the people within them, that are using Information Technology in innovative ways to deliver measurable business value.
“The Green Edge Award recognizes the best technology-driven sustainability initiatives in the region. BAT Kenya emerged as the winner thanks to its innovative deployment of an artificial intelligence tool for effective waste management and increased operational efficiency, remote factory set-up of a world-class factory, and digital safety solutions. We applaud them for their industry-leading efforts to champion digital transformation in East Africa,” Harry Hare, Chairman, and Publisher of CIO East Africa said.
“This is a remarkable milestone for BAT Kenya, and we are proud to be the first-ever winners of the Green Edge Award. By driving technology and innovation advancements in manufacturing, we are contributing to the attainment of the global Sustainable Development Goal to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
And with sustainability at the front and center of everything we do at BAT, it is also a testament to our commitment to deliver a better tomorrow for our stakeholders through our robust ESG agenda,” Edgar Okioga, BAT East Africa Head of Information & Digital Technology said.
